The Island

September 19, 2008

This is an easy read, a so-called beach or cafĂ© book. It’s nothing like the books I normally read, fantasy, but I managed to plow thorugh this one in two days. I guess that’s what you call a page-turner. The books tells the tragic history of a greek family. It opens with introducing Alexis Fielding, a young archaeologist who want to know more about her mother’s past. Her greek mother has kept her family’s tragic history a secret to her family all along, but now the story is revealed. It’s an OK book, no WOW, it’s a bestseller,  or atleast it is here in Norway, so there’s got to be something in there that the majority likes. A fast and easy read.

If you’re ever going to read anything written by a norwegian author…

September 16, 2008

you should read anything by Jostein Gaarder. I bitterly regret that I didn’t chose to write an author analysis of him for my major norwegian essay. Instead I’m analyzing AndrĂ© Bjerke’s "The lake of the dead" (directly translated) and Erlend Loe’s "Taken by the woman" (directly translated once again"….I struggle and WISH I was reading the orange girl, sophie’s world or the solitaire mystery. Alle three great books, it’s rare for me to find 3 books I like by the same author. Hopefully I’ll shortly get to his collection of short-stories named "The diagnose" or some of his other brilliant novels. Gaarder is translated into several languages and his novels are often based on philosophy!

The tales of the Otori

August 20, 2008

I’ve read A LOT this summer and I got a dose of fantasy lit through the trilogy of the Otori tribe, consisting of Across the nightingale floor, Grass for his pillow and Brilliance of the moon. If you, like me love anything fantasy or asian, I’d recommend this one! There’s also a prequel called The heavens net is wide and a fourth follow up named The harsh cry of the herron, I’ll certainly read those two too!

Twilight

August 9, 2008

Thought I’d might write something about the books I’ve read this summer. Starting with Twilight since I finnished that one first. I’ve long been reluctant to read these books. I’m not a huuuge fan of vampire literature, but this one was OK and I guess I’ll read the following three eventually. I feel the description of Isabella Swan fits me too, pale, clumsy…Love the cover photo, and I’m looking forward to the movie as well as I find vampire books better on the silver screen…I guess there’s no point in saying too much of the content, lots of people has read it already, and if you haven’t you probably will soon. I don’t want to spoil it…oh and Robert Pattison, playing Edvard in the movie is kinda hot
